The first half is so strong, and I was so disappointed when Eve is revealed to be evil and shallow. Bette Davis's character was poised to tell a story about overcoming the worst possible kind of jealousy (jealousy of someone who is actually good all the way down), and then to dignify the entire predicament of aging as a woman, but the movie cut her off.
