The Last Showgirl 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
The Last Showgirl's conflict is very hard-hitting and concrete despite its simplicity (in terms of relaying it to the audience). The movie strayed a lot for something that has an easy to understand conflict and yet it also didn't answer the questions posed by the strays (e.g. why did Eddie turn Jodie away despite their history?) and for that, I didn't feel as compelled to root for the resolutions at the end. Hello, Love, Again 2024
I don't know who but I think someone great left the writers room. The first movie's script moved me even though it had its cliche lines, but Hello, Love, Again felt a hundred times worse. The only gripping scenes were the lead up to Joy and Ethan's break up (and the actual breakup). After that, it fell apart and not in a good way.

Transformers One 2024
Though there is nothing wrong with enjoying movies for the sake of their hilarity, there is also something great with anticipating hilarity and getting gob-smacked by surprising depth and sincerity. I did not expect this movie about sentient transforming trucks to tackle class consciousness and labor laws, but apparently it did! And that made it all the more special. In a time wherein dark, "serious" films mishandle complex themes with centrist writing, Transformers One redefines complexity by presenting an accessible narrative of good versus evil without spoon-feeding which is black and which is white to viewers. On a less serious note, robot yaoi.
