Japanese Garfield really nails the tone of this movie. It’s loose, funny and not meant to be so serious. It does have a lightweight emotional plot point, but really one should watch it for the whimsy and goofiness and treat it like a Garfield movie.
You don’t need video essays and debates about it. The unrefined cartoon animation lends itself to the wacky concept of a golf court caddying toad spirit who loves to dig. If you can’t find humour in this, you need to unplug and get out!

If John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight makes me feel depressed in the everything-sucks-and-humanity-should-burn kinda way, this movie makes me depressed in the everything-sucks-but-I-need-to-do-better-for-humanity kind of way.

There’s no agenda of good or evil, or a sole…

Aside from being a beautifully rendered animation and visual art, the dialogue shows a desperate story of performative corporate empathy. A horde of platitudes strewn together into a script does not make a story.

I might as well have walked into a Target with David Attenborough and have him read all the corny ‘live laugh love’ signs and posters.

Perhaps this is better in book format where much like with those posters, it’s vague enough for viewers to ascribe their…
