There’s nothing wrong with aiming high! Grapples with big themes in a bold way but seems weirdly distant and incurious about its characters. It never felt boring or long but I’m amazed at how much more it could have explored in that long of a runtime.

Like a classic epic romance and shitty Hallmark movie rolled up into one. Casting different ages for the same role can kill you - I probably would bump this up a ⭐️ if they ended it with a slow o shot of Rach and Rygos.

Incredibly bold, original, unsettling, and very good performances. Something didn’t quite connect with me though - the world felt a little sketched out at times - like the narrative was making itself up as it went along. It felt like things were building up to some Eureka! moment that never came, unless you count that haunting final shot.

Also body horror rarely affects me THAT much. I should rewatch this one.

Pretty flat characters except for joaquin. Also just a really smug, self-satisfied 90s movie that’s way less sharp and subversive than it thinks it is
