The most effective horror film I have seen in a very long time. I mean this in the very best way possible but as the movie went on the more I wanted to be over because the amount of dread and anxiety this film was giving me was overwhelming, but with all that being said, I loved every fucking second of this batshit insane movie.

This is one of those super underrated films that’s just never going to get the shine it deserves very often, this is a very impressive and epic drama that is both compelling and enveloping. I wasn’t expecting this movie to cover so much ground and be as deep as it was as I was just expecting to watch a simple crime drama! I am definitely going to have to rewatch this again to fully understand it as this film feels like the movie equivalent of a great novel that will benefit from being revisited.

I’m mad at myself for being so intimidated to watch older films, as if I wasn’t aware that filmmakers 75 years ago weren’t capable of great art. I never would have watched this if I have never left my movie watching comfort zone. This is a truly incredible film that left me in awe and stunned by just how beautifully crafted it was. I can’t even put into words how I felt watching this, may need to think on it more but The Red Shoes may be my new favorite movie. At the very least it’s one of the best movies I have ever seen.

I have to be honest and confess that growing up I have never been a huge fan of horror films growing up, so throughout my life I missed the horror classics and a lot of the great horror films coming out now that people have been gushing about I have missed as well.

After watching and enjoying The Lighthouse, I was eager to check out Robert Egger's debut film The Witch, and after watching this, I can confidently say that…
