So disappointing.
First act was too long - second act interminable and at times excruciating. Third act had its moments and the final scene v well done.
Hard to believe this film is so celebrated when it’s such a mess tonally and in terms of pacing and the sexual politics were offensive. Having seen and been overwhelmingly moved by Frances back in the 80s - I thought it was finally time to see Frances Farmer’s work. What a performance - or rather dual performance. She has beauty and star quality in abundance but you can see so much more - the technical brilliance she brings - each character stands and gestures and speaks entirely differently - it’s like a stage performance without staginess.
