    Criterion Challenge 2025

    1. Watch a film from the CC40 Boxset.

“My uncle says we live three times as long since man invented movies. It means movies give us twice what we get from daily life”

Let the Criterion challenge begin! Didn’t intend for it, but I think I might just have to return to this movie the start of the new year again moving forward. As a viewer, you really just get thrown into every aspect of the Jian…

Never in my life did I envision Wallace and Gromit tackling AI, Cancel Culture or Police. But you know, I’m not mad.

Was this the invention of the modern action thriller? From the score to the action I was twisting in my seat for that car chase…my lord! Hackman and Scheider were so physical and electric in every scene they had. Really have to praise this where ever I can. My only problem was that the French conversation weren’t subtitled. I don’t know if that was Amazon or what but I would have liked to see what they were saying. RIP Gene

Everything about this movie hits even better on a rewatch. Maybe the before Letterbox’d effect made me think this was just great, but on round two with my wife we were crying like best buddies at the end.

Even when you know what happens there is so much to enjoy. The story beats all tie up and boy does Newman’s score and Deakin’s cinematography cook!

Don’t know what I loved more, ET turning out to be a gay icon or laughing this hard in a VHS Village watch party.
