i know how difficult it is to make a film in australia. i know that the odds are stacked against us, even in our own theatres, with hollywood occupying most of our screens. but a competently made film isn’t enough.
it was a fundamentally australian narrative without any australian flare to it. the dialogue felt formulatic and rigid, trying to uphold the conventions of what a mystery thriller is believed to be. with every loose end tied, no trust was given to the audience.
