This is the best Marty film ever made. At 70-years-old, he came out and made the masterwork of his career. Three hours has never felt quicker than it does here.

This is the one we’re gonna remember Leo for, thirty years from now. We’re not gonna give a fuck that he was Howard Hughes or that he won an Oscar for putting himself through anguish... we’ll remember him for this one (and OUaTiH, to be fair). We’ll remember him delivering…

Second time watching this movie since the pandemic started last March. Last time I loved it but thought it was a 4.5/5 that was closer to a 4/5 than a 5/5, but I was wrong! It’s a 5/5 film, folks!

This is perfect. On both occasions, the ending left me weepy and crying pretty heavily. Kerris Dorsey singing “The Show” is one of the more beautiful moments in film that I can ever recall.

Brad Pitt is also one of…

Harrowing and breathtakingly-gorgeous to look at. Funny that MARIA got that fifth cinematography nomination cause this really looks impressive and feels as claustrophobic as any movie of 2024.

Won’t think much of it in the future probably because it came at the end of a 16-movie in seven days binge to see every Oscar movie, so my brain was absolutely fried as this concluded two hours before the telecast began, but there’s definitely a solid movie here.

Really went into this with an open heart and was justly rewarded! Obviously the plotting of a rote musical biopic but also staggeringly more honest and vulnerable and “full of warts” than most of these get (Williams makes it very clear he’s deeply insecure and a piece-of-shit willing to sell out for the pursuit of fame pretty early on).

And the CGI, though bewildering, is mostly pretty effective and looks great! But shockingly, director Michael Gracey (yes, of THE GREATEST…

Absolutely imperfect, but also maybe the most compelling movie I’ve watched this year (maybe?) and perhaps even the best. Still, one of the only movies where I’d understand a 1/5 rating as much as a 5/5. I get it. It just was a pretty spectacular viewing experience for me. Felt out of breath the entire runtime and also incapable of ever looking away. Despite the vulgarity and grotesqueness at moments, it’s also an agonizingly beautiful movie, especially in terms of…

INCEPTION is one of my ten favorite movies ever and I would call it a masterpiece; this is absolutely Nolan’s best film and might go down as his crowning achievement. Few movies have ever indicted America to a more extreme degree. A marvel in casting (Murphy, obviously, as well as Pugh, Damon, RDJ, and Clarke), sound, and photography. Second act for the ages.

Maybe one or two films left that have a chance to top that one in 2023. This is the one we’re gonna remember Nolan for.
