So this is quickly becoming one of my favorite movies. One of my favorite movies ever. The acting, the story and the freaking look of this movie are perfect. Sorry, Christmas Vacation, time to chisel my holiday Mount Rushmore to remove you and add this absolute gem.

A weird mix of Seven and Hereditary, amongst others. Took a little to long to get to the point and I was underwhelmed even then.

A first time viewing for me.

Honestly the movie is trying to be heartwarming and I didn’t get the white savior vibe I’ve often seen in other films like this. And it’s really hard for me to disparage anything with Morgan Freeman because he is an all-timer. I do wish his character had been fleshed out a bit more outside of his life with Miss Daisy. But maybe that’s mostly the product of a movie that clocks in under two hours.

Look, the movie is a stone cold classic. It looked gorgeous on the big screen at the Philadelphia Film Center. What makes this viewing truly memorable was the experience I’ve enjoyed over the last day and a half. I had an excellent time meeting the many fine people in the VHS Village and it was really cool to see this movie with so many of them, including some first-timers. A huge thank you to Slim, Danny and Proto for making this happen and being the catalyst for such a memorable event.

    My new favorite Cronenberg movie.

Seriously though, Demi Moore is phenomenal. I’ll withhold judgement on whether she should win the Oscar until I see the other performances but she is without a doubt worthy of it. It’s not really subtle in the point it’s trying to make but that is fine by me. Gets a bit crazy with about 25 minutes left but still a fun time.

I’m honestly shocked a movie like this got nominated for best picture.
