I appreciate the effort and Gere is the best he’s been in a long time. That said it feels both rushed and languid, never really fleshing out its characters and therefore never really giving you the sense of meaning it is looking for. It’s certainly personal and in that sense you hope it was meaningful to Schrader but there is a significant sadness in an artist who’s last few films have focused so bluntly on mortality but cannot quite find the language to convey their feeling to an audience.

It’s perfectly fine! Sturdy and well made which is more than you can say about a lot of stuff produced at its dollar point these days. The cast are all good. Can see why it’s a SAG type movie.

It’s an interesting, and well intentioned film that makes a few compelling points, but it’s too unfocused and rose tinted to be truly as compelling as it should be.
