A sensitive, deft portrayal of these men’s relationship to art, resilience, and each other. While the editing and scoring can feel a little on the nose and overly sentimental in parts, I think the film does a great job of highlighting who these men have become, focusing more on their present and future than their past (though i wouldn’t have minded getting more story out of the men who portrayed themselves in the film). Definitely also the most beautiful production design I’ve ever seen for a story set in prison, too!

Say Anything... 1989
I’ve known this movie to be a classic my whole adult life, and finally seeing it I’m kinda like… ok…?

The Substance 2024
A fun family film to watch with your boyfriend and his mom!
Thrilled that this was as good as everyone hyped it up to be. Absolutely unhinged yet precise performances from Moore and Qualley. Fargeat constructs a vivid but eerily sterile Hollywood hellscape that created the perfect base for all the symbolism. Also, we love a horror film that’s not afraid of color!!
Just perfect execution all around plus nods to all the greats: Lynch, Ducournau, Kubrick, Cronenberg, etc. Left me feeling disturbed, sad, awestruck, and a little ill lol. What more could you want!!

I Saw the TV Glow 2024
Love the genuine artistry Jane Schoenbrun brings to their work. One of the most unique films I’ve seen in a while! A very creative take on experiences of trauma and trans identify that didn’t pander or make those the only centerpieces of the story. At the best of times, feels like it’s in the same cinematic universe as Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher and Carmen Maria Machado’s stories.
That said, the writing sometimes felt a little too Tumblr or like the voiceover…
