  this film is haunting but also beautiful. the characters are so richly complex and never exploited and the shots are so well composed wowowow

  Finally, a modern horror movie done right. I recently gave up on seeing horror films for horror and started seeing them for humor, but Hereditary resorted my hope in modern horror films. Instead of cheap jump scares, the cinematography (lights, camera work, etc.) create tension and suspense that had me on the edge of my seat. It was scary because it was a mix of uncomfortable, disturbing, and honestly sad instead of jump scares and cliches.
