The best thing about Miracle Mile is that Winningham and Edwards got married almost 30 years after filming it.
A few standout scenes - the red elevator ride and the crowded street in front of the department store with the cop car crashed into it. Besides that, I got After Hours vibes a few times, but that isn't necessarily a positive for me (sorry, Mitchell!) Wild tone shifts caused this to be a difficult watch for me.
Mid-tier Bergman for me. There’s definitely the cocktail that Bergman often makes: life, death, grief, and religion. He leaves the viewer with a great deal to think about and process.
What a mess.
Some fascinating images, to be sure. But the interesting pieces are wrapped in such a spastic, nonsensical package that it isn’t worth watching. Ridiculous plotting, unneeded camera effects, horrible score, mixed-up tone. This movie has it all.
Minus an extra star for the sexualization of teenagers.
