    The Omen

    ★★

    Comparisons.

The Omen remake has almost nothing to deliver that original mystery flick didn't, other than continuous camera rotations (no Zulawski craftmanship here) for about one hour. Contrariwise, it has corny special effects and not even one sequence with engaging climax -e.g. the scene at the cemetery has so indifferent shooting.
The new version has an exceptional chance with Rosemary/Mia Farrow, but the screenwriter did not exploit her presence at all. No haunting Goldsmith around -even if Beltrami did a decent job-. and the extended couple's psychodrama lacks chemistry.
Not to forget Postlethwaite's dominant presence and Thewlis' solid performance.

    Oscar

    ★★★

From scratch to the very end, "Oscar" brings to mind the style and air of an Italian opera buffa, though it goes without singing. And in this light, its farcical and feathery plot works nobly, having Sly in an unexpected role (with unexpected turns for his hero too) surrounded by ex-bouncers/now-butlers, sexy daughter Marisa Tomei, shimmering wife Ornella Muti and a great series of misunderstandings.

    Rocky IV

    ★★★

Although it shows excessive tendentiousness (to put it courteously) towards Cold War and despite being probably the poorest in content of all series, it contains the by far most inspirational, genuinely old-fashioned fight preparation (the Rocky's one in his snowy cottage and on steep mountains) and two terribly evocative matches.
Let's keep in mind Stallone's opposition to machines and technocratic measurements in athletics too - no need to say about doping.
