The theater stayed seated and silent until the lights came back on. We were all briefly connected to the people of Masafer Yatta’s resistance and witnessed the ethnic cleansing and depravity of the IOF and Israeli settlers. It felt like the longer we sat the longer we could delay walking back into a world that denies what we saw.
I always love a movie that is subtle AND under 2 hours. Without spoilers, I think a lot of us have a Benji in our lives that don’t always get the impact of their light reflected back to them.
Really impactful. I left the theater feeling exhausted and like I lived Adrien Brody’s life -which I’d say is technically a success …but I wasn’t emotionally prepared for the weight of that. Brody and Jones’ performances and the cinematography are worth celebrating. A lot of the plot points were very predictable and/or felt like surface level analysis of what the characters were experiencing, which makes sense given how many years the movie spans. But the plot points in which I was surprised were very powerful.
