Hear me out here. The context played a significant part of this films success. I think the fact it was made in the 90s played a very clear part of the narrative - by that I mean, if this film was made now, it wouldn't be so damn clear from the get go that this was a mental health thing and i say that because these days we are much better educated on mental health and disorders.

At the point where Sam is smashing his mini train town to bits. He uses a dinky hammer. Then all of a sudden mid hammer, the hammer goes from barbie sized to a fat fucking crowbar? Excuse me??? The continuity man come onnnn
