It's always interesting to see older texts that have very obviously influenced some of your modern faves. And it's good to know that South Korean cinema has always been a bit darker than most.

The Silenced 2015
I really got into this one. I appreciate using genre conventions to explore the trauma Japan caused during their occupation of Korea. It also looks great! So many haunting shots. I wish the movie had a little bit more time to breathe however. Plot points just keep happening and we don't get to spend enough time with the girls, especially for all of the emotional beats to truly land. Thankfully, both Park Bo-Young & Park So-Dam give performances good enough to make-up for any lack of character depth.
This is probably best going in blind. Well that and having a basic understanding of 1930s occupied Korea.
