As a fan of the book, I wanted to enjoy this way more than I actually did. There were a few key scenes that pulled me in, but I feel like the devices they used to elicit an emotional response did the exact opposite for me; I was too distracted by the device to feel truly connected to the characters and their story.
On reflection I think first person perspective just might not be my thing. But I respect the swings this movie takes, as well as the individualized experience of its audience.
