  Although, not unlike The Passion of the Christ, it’s exceedingly violent and grotesque.

  A disjointed, dark gray soap opera, anchored only by three great performances from Winslet, Smart, and Nicholson, plus a handful of surprising plot twists. Otherwise, it suffers from constant bleakness, character overload, and some truly abysmal writing. There’s enough mystery to keep you gossiping, but when it’s all said and done, you may be left wondering what any of it was for.
