Oppenheimer 2023
One of the best movies I have ever watched. I watched Oppenheimer in IMAX, which made the impact of the film that much more surreal and significant. Nolan’s use of sound and the juxtaposition of colored and black-and-white film was quite symbolic and demonstrated a masterclass in cinematography. The biopic was an incredible look into the complexity of Robert Oppenheimer and the scientific community from which he hailed.

Barbie 2023
Absolutely love any film directed by Greta Gerwig. Gerwig does a wonderful job foiling the realities of patriarchy with the Ken-dependence depicted in Barbieland. Unlike patriarchy, however, Barbie’s climax demonstrates how empowerment — rather than the perpetration of oppression by those in positions of power and authority — by Barbies of their Ken counterparts results in the liberation of Ken’s in Barbieland. I hope the complexity and commentary of Gerwig’s Barbie is not lost on audiences.
