I usually prefer story-driven narratives over character-driven narratives because I have an easier time feeling the gratification of a well-put-together narrative than I do embracing the feelings of catharsis that authentic characters can provoke.

Sing Sing is so uniquely authentic that the underlying feeling being communicated is palpable; it hits you like a truck. Black men and black boys have had their creativity snuffed out by not only the mass incarceration in America but the educational system as well. This…

Good lord, they found a way to make tennis interesting. The characters are layered with eroticism and nuanced personality, the stylized cinematography takes advantage of the back and forth motif associated with tennis, particularly in that ending sequence. These characters are written so well. The dichotomy between Edward and Oswald is insanely good. Edward’s internal psychology is explored perfectly. I need to re-watch this movie for many different reasons, but the main reason I WILL be watching this movie is for Mia Goth. Her character in X, Maxine has a shadow casted over her because of pearl in this movie.

    Nope

Nope was this year's most anticipated movie for me. However, now that I've seen it, my own expectations completely botched my experience. In the theater, I was waiting for that moment when a greater message would click and make itself apparent, but that didn't happen. Disturbing plot points that were hinted at repeatedly didn't really have a greater purpose in the narrative, outside of the themes they were meant to convey, which is good but underwhelming.

    Unlike the character motivations…
