loved how the documentary brings the viewer into this world with contemplative silence, the slow passage of time, and moments of joy. despite the monks asceticism, their lives seem rich.

watching this was so fun and cool as hell i loved the subtle campiness and creativity with some twin peaks influence(?) but later alone in my apartment at night i was like um i kinda feel like the grudge is here. haha.

kind of a hot mess. the main character goes through the trials and tribulations of toxic manipulative lesbian relationships, hits rock bottom multiple times and keeps digging, and eventually meets her hot communist wife who loves her. switches between "it's so over" and "we're so back" at incredible speed. i want to read the book it's based on now.

too much style and not enough substance...the comedy didn't really work and along the way the story lost itself. the russo brothers with a24 was gonna be weird and bad i knew it. as a bonus, the neon and flashing editing was migraine inducing, so watch out. great cast though.
