Georges Melies is one of the true originators of narrative story telling and special effects in film making! This visual spectacular is fantastically imagined with clocks, top hats and umbrellas as featured tools for these space explorers. Love the poetically envisioned “stage-like” settings created by Melies and his team! I admit to feeling a bit sad about the unjust treatment of the moon inhabiting Selenites by the explorers, though I really enjoyed the Selenite’s aesthetic appearance and acrobatic prowess! Atmospheric music by the aptly named band Air, and vintage-style coloration and restoration of the original film heightens this stellar, interstellar classic!!

This is a childhood favorite of mine! I saw it originally on HBO in its original incarnation! Rewatched it recently and it still holds up!
