If I could, I would give this poetic and beautifully humanistic film 6 stars! One of the most moving and transformative movies I have ever seen. The important reminder expressed in this exquisite film is that there are subtle yet profound joys to be found in our everyday experiences, if we are open to them! The mostly wordless visual narrative is quietly and powerfully expressed in the meaningful daily ritual and nighttime dream sequences of the main character. Komorebi, a…

Georges Melies is one of the true originators of narrative story telling and special effects in film making! This visual spectacular is fantastically imagined with clocks, top hats and umbrellas as featured tools for these space explorers. Love the poetically envisioned “stage-like” settings created by Melies and his team! I admit to feeling a bit sad about the unjust treatment of the moon inhabiting Selenites by the explorers, though I really enjoyed the Selenite’s aesthetic appearance and acrobatic prowess! Atmospheric music by the aptly named band Air, and vintage-style coloration and restoration of the original film heightens this stellar, interstellar classic!!

As a lifelong fan of Kaiju, I have seen every Godzilla movie made and in my opinion this one is the very best!!! This newer take combines all the thrill, mythology and iconic music of the original incarnations of this genera and adds  advanced visuals along with more developed characters. Truly enjoyed watching the super exciting plan of action unfold with innovative precision against what seems like a powerfully unstoppable foe!!!

This is a childhood favorite of mine! I saw it originally on HBO in its original incarnation! Rewatched it recently and it still holds up! Great well developed characters in the scrappy but loving family of a down-at-the-heels racehorse trainer played by Walter Matthau. Love the youngest son’s devotion and love for the horse named after him, Casey’s Shadow, and how he sees the exceptional nature of this horse when others do not. When the horse’s racing ability becomes apparent…
