    In this epic, engrossing, one hundred year-old dystopian sci fi story, the origins of so many other sci fi stories are to be discovered. Seriously, this movie has influenced everything from C-3PO to Coppola’s Megaflopolis. Even now, it holds up.

    This silent movie classic is remarkably modern. The best element is obviously Maria Falconetti’s acting as Joan of Arc, which is greatly helped along by the close-ups on her desperate face. Every inch of Falconetti’s face is devoted to conveying the intense and subtle emotions of the heroine she is playing. I was amazed and moved by her performance.

    A cute, earnest short film made by a young girl about reversed gender stereotypes: only boys can wear dresses, and girls have to play sports and be tough. Weirdly, it serves more as a lens as to how men are treated by the patriarchy than anything (the same as the girl in the short film), since when I was the same age as the girl in the short film, I was also the only girl wearing dresses in school.
