It’s the movie you make when you’re 17 and become obsessed with masters like Antonioni or Lynch or Roeg or Tarkovsky and so make a generic student film that you think is so meaningful but is just pretentious, bad, and immature. Pseudo-profundity like this gives a bad name to great arthouse cinema, and commits the cardinal sin of just making me want to watch the infinitely better films it wrongfully thinks it’s as good as.

When watching snippets of Trump rallies, you can observe the following: a crowd sadistically cheering for harm and violence toward individuals they deem as “bad”; that same crowd roaring with laughter at homophobic & juvenile jokes; the obliviousness the crowd has for the lack of quality and sincerity in their pseudo-messianic myth-maker; an obsession with crowd sizes as if that’s the only measure of success; and the cult-like status of the whole bloody affair as sadism in oneself isn’t merely exposed, but celebrated.
But, tonight, I didn’t observe this from watching snippets of a Trump rally. I observed it in a packed movie theater showing DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE.
