If they’re going to keep doing these movies with sequences that are directly taken from video games, then I’m very excited for the extended geography quiz ripped from Mario Is Missing.
(I joke, but if they go beyond just Easter Eggs and actually do a Duck Hunt sequence, I’ll likely be enthralled. I’m not better than anyone.)
The first half of this is a really good time, with a pretty killer opening sequence. There’s a great bodega scene, and a very fun subway scene toward the end. After the subway, I felt a bit of a decline, but the first section more than made up for it.
Courtney Cox’s character arc in this series is so silly. She truly changes 180° every other movie, going from invasive tabloid journalist to helpful ally, and then back again.
And yes Mindy, a character in this movie, I use Letterboxd, okay? Don’t act like you don’t.
I recently heard that the Arthur Leigh Allen interrogation scene was done a few times, with the actor playing Leigh being told to play the scene differently each time: one time guilty, another time innocent, etc. I feel like now I can tell which line readings come from each take, because the scene goes from almost light-hearted to pretty chilling.
