Jim Carrey’s whole thing was being wild and unhinged, but I feel like this was a first step to put that wildness into an otherwise normal setting and character. He’s not a pet detective or dumb or a cartoon gang member; he’s a man with a family, a job, an unsettling and inconvenient curse of compulsive truth telling. That is why it might be my favorite of his 90s comedies.
