Damn, this thing goes so fckn hard. A tragedy like Shakespeare could never.
I'm fascinated by how this is so quintessentially Japanese - like its very essence is steeped in elements that are unique to Japanese culture. And yet it's also such a universally relatable human story.

I dunno, sorry to be a hater, but this didn’t hit for me.
All the actors in this are so overexposed in real life that it was difficult to get immersed in the film. I kept thinking like “oh there’s Florence” or “oh there’s that guy who played Elvis” or “oh there’s goofy Christopher Walken who makes me giggle whenever he’s on screen despite what’s actually happening.”
Plus, the dialog was kinda really bad in some parts? Anyone else think…
So let's be honest: I watched this movie for the, uh, *ahem* visual effects.
Basically, I was sold on the movie poster and thought this was going to be entirely hot lady smashy-smashy, but instead we only got one good scene of that and the rest was a bunch talky-talky with a group of the most absolutely unlikeable characters.
