A good Miyazaki film. Thoughtful, imaginative, and beautifully animated. The characters didn't quite grab me the way they do in my favorite Miyazaki films, and the undercurrent of loss gives it a slightly less warm and comforting atmosphere than his most beloved works. Still, to say that this movie is merely a good Miyazaki film is high praise when compared to almost anything else.
Great chemistry between the leads, a consistently endearing supporting cast, and a lot of moments that made me laugh. It doesn't do anything to break the rom com mold, but it delivers everything you'd expect from the genre exceptionally well.

A just-good-enough entry in the wildly uncompetitive "shark films that aren't Jaws" subgenre. This film is a bit all over the place in terms of what it wants to be. It has a very serious environmental message about how man is the real threat, and spends a lot of time emphasizing that sharks very rarely attack people.
