Given that the message at the end is "I'm glad I found a true friend", it's confusing that they didn't spend more of the movie going through the students' friendships and seeing which ones stand the test of loyalty. Instead we just spend 2 hours uncovering peoples' crushes, which begins to get tiring. I still found the movie engaging, however -- the action is quick and the classical music soundtrack brings a new level of solemnity.

When I was in high school my mom told me that she would never join a religion that didn't allow men and women to hold the same positions of power, and I was thinking about that at the beginning of the movie and my main reaction was "well, there are many reasons I won't become catholic but that's one of many valid reasons", and then I kept being reminded of it every time we saw the nuns preparing the place settings at the tables for the cardinals. And then boom, the ending happened, and everything clicked into place.
