The Florida Project 2017
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Was annoyed at first that the movie seemed like one of those “random collections of moments without plot” movies but more and more it started to connect with me. Good payoff, but the first half of the movie is a little slow.
The final sequence being shot digitally detracts from it, otherwise beautiful-looking film. Some say “ohhhhh but they meant to do that!” cool, I don’t get why. Leading up to the ending was really interesting/sad. Everyone there needs a hug, and while CPS needs better training, there really is no good way to tell a kid that they’re being separated from their crummy parent(s).

Ten seconds in and I fully understand why it won best picture!
Nicely shot, good cast, kinda funny, but it kinda subtracted from the more serious parts of the film, where the gravity of the subject was pretty heavy. Maybe we’re supposed to be like Vanya on a bender while viewing this, who knows!
