I’ve come to love this movie more with every rewatch.
The atmosphere at Rohini theatre was electric. The sheer amount of talent and craft that came together for this for this epic is insane.
It delights me to no end that in a movie directed by Mani Ratnam, shot by Santosh Sivan, starring Rajinikanth, Mammooty, Shobhana, Nagesh and so many other legends, the biggest cheers by far were for Ilaiyaraaja’s score and songs.
The sun should be so grateful that it was shot by Santosh Sivan, scored by Ilaiyaraaja to godly music, and that Rajinikanth acted alongside it.
Sometimes you just need to yell "I'M NOT FINE AND THAT'S A TOTALLY REASONABLE RESPONSE" in the woods with an emotionally withdrawn, awkward, affectionate and ultimately sensitive father figure and things will be alright.
I don't think I'll fully understand why or how this movie affected me so much. I tried resisting for a while, nitpicking it internally etc etc. But somewhere along the runtime, without my knowing, I just let it all wash over me: the beautiful visuals and…
