  AGNES VARDA FOREVER! 

  so impressed that this was her first feature ! queen of the French new wave it’s crazy that Godard and truffât are known to starting this wave but varda was way ahead of them… there is a lot to love about this movie in particular i love the way the camera moves through this fishing town like a gust of wind, it takes in all the people living in la pointe courte, the conversations, the wandering cats,  laundry hanging, the festivities.. all the while lovers contemplate the passage of time and their love simmering into a disquiet passion….

  the atmosphere is heavy as the soundscapes reverberate what is to come. the potent imagery flows and obscures as tension builds around Tomiko, who knowingly heads into the fire, she suspects the new bus conductor but still falls for him. the powerful and haunting shadows and the use of piercing obscuring light further add suspicion to the mysterious Niittaka... i had to pause several times to take in…
