An incredible piece of filmmaking with ridiculously good performances across the board. Every episode is riveting and gut-wrenching in completely different ways, including the last 20 minutes and final scene which just completely wrecked me. In awe of how the cast and crew pulled this one off. Genius.

pretty good but imperfect. The tone is kind of darkly silly, it's very funny in moments and the main cast are uniformly excellent - Ruffalo and Collette eat every scene they're in - and the writing is generally good despite a few cringe-inducing lines.
But it lacks any real big budget blockbuster appeal (despite good production design and some nice cinematography), and crucially the film is overlong with an underdeveloped story and themes, which just hamstring it to the upper bounds of mediocrity.

Overall some really good ideas and some interesting cinematography and sound design but many of ideas (and characters) were left half-baked and the film's execution was generally inconsistent, belying Zoe Kravitz's status as a first time director. Still an enjoyable film and an impressive debut; I'm interested to see where she goes with her next project.

A really entertaining 3rd act can't save this film from weak and under-developed characters and a thin story.
The plot is basic - the characters want to get off their bad planet and travel to a better planet, that's it. And that's fine; as a film in this genre the plot isn't the most important thing - what keeps the viewer entertained is atmosphere and caring about the characters and what happens to them. The atmosphere was OK if…
