A dizzying parable on adulthood, hypocrisy and the greed for more (and perhaps a lot else too). The film walks the narrow line between haunting and hilarious, resulting in a hypnotic film that makes you look for something in its every passing moment. Films this beautiful, visually are simply not made anymore, with Būnuel’s absolutely entrancing blocking, lighting and shot-compositions. Every single scene looks so sumptuous and overwhelming in its beauty. There’s so much to take away from this film, and I hope to revisit it every so often.

Masterful work. Images to communicate love and transience. What I woefully mistook as a ‘shallow’ film from its opening minutes, took me on a journey so mature and thought-provoking that it has left me almost speechless. Jeanne Moreau steals the show, with her internal performance, quietly commanding every frame she’s in. Monica Vitti is stunning as well, drenched in silvery light and shadows, that frame her in a way only Antonioni could. The rain sequence is phenomenal beyond compare too. One of a kind filmmaking.

I’ll start with my favourite and probably the one most important to the movie:

“one day you should buy a ticket and find out, how big the ocean…

I feel like I’m watching a different show to everyone, because this is so fun.

Richa Chadha turns in her career-best here, with her mujra being the highlight of the show. The visuals of it were simply intoxicating. Manisha Koirala is delightfully unhinged, like a sort-of Olivia Coleman in ‘The Favourite’ meets Meryl in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’.

The visuals are as expected, stunning, combined with the explosive pace of the show, the underhanded scheming…
