NO ONE TOLD ME THIS WAS LIKE THE BEST GHIBLI FILM WHAT??? I FEEL SO LIED TO.
I watched this not expecting anything because it's always that one ghibli movie that everyone knows but it's not what springs to mind when you say 'best of miyazaki'. I loved this so much, the score, the insanely beautiful frames, the storyline and message. Pretty unforgettable.

In the Mood for Love 2000
This film is so interesting because I think the two main characters are the characters that talk the least in this movie. Or maybe it just felt like that because so much of the interactions between Mr Chow and Mrs Chen were filled with silences, glances or dialogue we couldn't hear (covered by that SCRUMPTIOUS score).
But it's amazing because they don't need to. A seemingly mundane yet excruciating and secretive romance told entirely with the art of subtlety and nuance.

I liked this more than I expected to, there was some really standout cinematography (especially the bit where they're all looking at Benito after the bombing).
I thought this was quite optimistic with it's view of liberal organised religion, however I liked the way our human nature plays out in this film, in our curiosity and willingness to change events for what we think is good and our need to be modest and deny our appetite for power.
