part of me was a little irked that sexual liberation was the main device through which Bella came into her own, because there are so many things to learn about personhood and womanhood that don't center around men and sex. but I also appreciate that it was a narrative choice and an effective way to communicate Bella's approach to the world. I don't think the message was ultimately very revolutionary but I was still blown away by the movie as a whole, and I will have to rewatch!!
