Now this is a movie!
It's nice to see Spielberg's more cynical side (even if sometimes he still can't help himself from being goofy, like with the eyes here). I thought the ending was a little weak, both in how it "surprised" you and seemed to wrap up too neatly. I loved Farrell's performance as an apparent bastard who you still kind of have to respect because he's good at what he's been sent there to do.

This was pretty disappointing!
The good:
The dead bodies looked really upsetting, instead of like people wearing light makeup, as they often do on procedural shows. Some of the dialog was good. I liked how dark it was (visually).
The bad:
Why is Edgar Allan Poe in this at all? He has virtually nothing to do with it. It's completely unnecessary. Also, all of the character stuff comes at the end. Also, the Satanism stuff is really silly. Also, this is not a real mystery. Also, the sexual violence aspect seemed really crass/thoughtless.
maybe if the film actually had been about a soufflé I would I have liked it
I didn't fully watch this again (yet), but I could watch an entire week of Benoit Blanc just doing mundane, slice-of-life things.
