No one seems to know that this is a remake of the French film The Dinner Game (1998). Go watch it! It’s fantastic!!

I wonder how many people noticed the Yojimbo (Akira Kurosawa, 1961) reference with the dog carrying the severed human hand.

I also wish Chris Hemsworth wasn’t in this.

This movie was awful. I love art house, avant-garde stuff but this was unwatchable. I didn’t laugh once but the actors never stopped laughing, and for no apparent reason at all. “I’m a tennis guy. HAHAHAHAHAHA.” “He gives his kids $50 a week. HAHAHAHAHA.” Amateurish and cheesy acting, constant yelling, zero script, unlikable characters, and really no point. This is my 2nd Cassavetes film after Shadows which I didn’t care for either. I got the Criterion boxset and I’m hoping these get better but I have little hope. This didn’t even have a glimmer of any redeeming quality.

Wes Anderson’s quirky, random, whimsical, cutesy dialogue gets so tiring. And although it seems intended to be comedic is almost always painfully unfunny. That, combined with his distracting, precise, machine-like camera movements and his sanitary, symmetrical toyland aesthetic makes great actors feel like action figures and destroys any possibility of emotion or relatability. It’s like a much more boring Napoleon Dynamite. This movie lacks purpose or inspiration. I have no idea what I’m looking at. Feels like random artificial nonsense.
