Seldom have I become so absorbed in the relationships of a trio; believed in the magnetism of twin flames & the helplessness of a hopeless romantic.
This film left me wanting resolution… and most of all, wondering if CB2’s iconic tea light holder was even in production back in 2011.
Watch this movie!!? I screamed in a mostly-silent theatre (save for the woman beside me who kept whispering “now kiss” every time there was tension between 2/3 leads).

As a person born in '97, I imagine that this movie was a sleeper hit because I was always watching it from the comfort of the living room of my family home. I have no idea if that's true, but I do know that our VHS of this is well-loved. A movie that both myself and my mother (b. '63) adore because of the stroke of genius that was casting Julie Andrews.
(My mother and I also read far too…
Kinda slaps. Feels like the precursor to (500) Days of Summer in the best way. I love the bare honesty that both of the characters seem to have little issue with. Great demonstration of how even comfort can exist alongside internalized feelings, insecurity and things left unsaid. Temporality feels so beautiful.
One of my top faves from childhood. A socialist, eco-conscious icon who wants only to do her best. This cast: unparalleled. Hugh Dancy SHINES. Anne Hathaway is soooo good as a sarcastic young woman shackled by the obedience-obsessed misogyny of her time.
I always forget that this gem is based on a book, one I hope someday to read, and potentially amend my review, here.
Also: kinda gay..?
