  While I wouldn’t say the original has a bad style, it’s beautiful, this one is so much more consistent in animation It’s almost jarring. It’s also very faithful to the original in its background score and general characterizations of all the animals, except, they’re actually CHARACTERS? They feel fleshed out, and expanded upon from their bases. Even all the side characters too, who are much easier to listen to, and were given much better voice acting and direction.

  I wish this movie was as interesting as it was beautiful— literally every frame is a painting and the songs are so layered with voices that it’s amazing to listen to. 

  But for every gorgeously animated forest fire and tonally exquisite meadow meeting, there’s…Thumper…and while many scenes I know are designed as a slice of life, cute forest creature moment, they feel so grating to sit through until the next scene finally pops up and we’re done with the squeaky…

  I really, really wish I could see this movie as the masterpiece it wants to be. But for one, I’m not into thriller or horror stories, so it’s immediately a very very boring experience for my personal viewing. And two, the transphobia and propaganda of trans people that was stemmed throughout film history BECAUSE of this movie makes me depressed and sad.
