I generally enjoyed the aesthetic aspect of the film, especially Luhrmann's interpretation of parties during the 1920s—more than a little over the top with lots of dancing and drinking. However, I felt like the film overall failed as an adaptation, particularly because of the strange framing of Nick retelling the story from a mental institution.
