I’m going to ponder for a long time why I loved this movie as much as I did. A post-Bourne action-thriller with heavy doses of artfully depicted desolation and grime; fairytale atmospherics; and genuinely great performances. That all probably has something to do with it. Loses some steam in the last act, but I’ll let it slide.

Eephus 2024
I only really laughed a handful of times, and as I was watching it, I didn’t feel like I was having an especially strong emotional connection with any of the characters. But this one has stayed with me. I keeping thinking about it, and I want to relive that day again and again, which, I think, is the point of the movie.

Genuinely hilarious. Great cast, simple sustainable plot, laugh-a-minute Hollywood satire. More like this please.

The Bikeriders 2023
Despite some extremely thin conflicts driving the story, there’s much to recommend it, including a “da Bears”-level accent from Jodie Comer that somehow works, Michael Shannon bringing that wobbly menace, and Tom Hardy beaming in from another planet. Also plenty of that now requisite “cool music.” Fun stuff; Scorsese lite. Wish there were more of these of kinds of movies these days.
