With both Oz Perkins movies I’ve seen, the opening scene has been the strongest scene in the movie.
It makes sense this was based on a short story because it feels like it.

On its face, this seems like a serious and important movie, but winds up being pretty silly in a fun way. Very pulpy. Well shot, and the score was a standout element. Ralph Fiennes is one of the best guys doing it, and the supporting cast is also excellent. I’d love to see more movies like this, where a pulpy/melodramatic story is tackled by an exceptional filmmaker who elevates it through their top shelf craft. Reminded me a bit of a David Fincher’s Gone Girl in that regard.
Took a half a star off for all the shots that weren’t in slow motion
