1970Deft, elegant, assured, refined, etc. all those things — if a touch overcalculated — not exactly a rare combination for some of these classic Euro brilliances. I admit this is not my favorite way of depicting or thinking through fascism — by way of psychodrama, which is way less subtle here than the deft, elegant, assured, refined style and structure might mislead you to believe — but this is still compelling even if its density is oversold. I much prefer — stylistically, formally, politically — the less decorous and more unbuttoned 1900.
