Oldboy 2003
My professor told us to watch this movie, then also said he didn’t like it because of the gratuitous violence. This confused me. The violence in Oldboy is among the least gratuitous violence in film, because it has a purpose other than shock and entertainment. Oldboy is about the violence of existence in the “wider prison”; a life in a bleak, capitalist society.
