    Gorgeously acted and shot, and perfectly understated. The depiction of the vast, cold academic's house filled with dope smoking nit-ridden children was particularly excellent.

    For all its groundbreaking qualities at the time, it struck me as a thematically conservative film in some ways - this is free love but of a sort that leaves its characters ultimately abandoned, wanting commitment that is never given. When Rupert finally performs his monologue there’s pathos to his jokes and an edge of recognisable talent even. He’s no better than your standard hack comedian but no worse. We learn he grew up in an abusive hellhole - and here he is giving it his (twisted) best.
