Pretty good movie. I think the first half is stronger than the second half. The camera work is the movie’s biggest strength, in my opinion; I liked pretty much all of the choices made with the camera and shot framing throughout and there are multiple moments that stand out as visually interesting.
Honestly a strong performance from Hugh Grant. It’s impressive to me how disarming he is despite what you know he must be as the audience.

Thomas is well. I am certain of it.
This small exchange between Friedrich and Ellen stuck with me. He says this more to himself than Ellen. Uncertain of the fate of his friend, he chooses to blindly reassure himself rather than despair. I think this moment captures something innately human within the larger exploration of human nature going on in this film.

In my opinion, this movie has the best score and sound design of all time. Hans Zimmer’s unfamiliar and alien score pulls you into the world you’re seeing on the screen. The weight of a thumper mimics a heart pounding in anticipation of what will come. The deep clicks of the worms complement their monolithic size.
My two favorite sequences contain these two sounds. First, when the Fremen are preparing their siege of the emperor’s encampment, we see 3 thumpers…
